Young artists across the Isle of Wight are being invited to submit original Jimi Hendrix-inspired artwork for a new exhibition at Dimbola Museum and Galleries, with the winner receiving Isle of Wight Festival tickets and having their work displayed publicly.
In association with Brave Island, Dimbola is launching an open call for creatives aged between 14 and 25 ahead of the upcoming ‘Experience Hendrix – Isle of Wight Festival 1970’ exhibition.
The competition invites artists to create original work inspired by Hendrix’s iconic appearance at the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival.
Submissions can take inspiration from Hendrix himself, his distinctive clothing style, his guitar or the songs he performed during the legendary festival appearance.
Artists are free to work in any medium, including painting, printmaking, mosaic, sculpture, fabric or mixed media.
The winning piece will be selected by current Isle of Wight Festival organiser John Giddings and 1970 Festival organiser Ray Foulk during the exhibition opening event in May.
As well as being featured in the exhibition, the winner will receive a pair of tickets to the Isle of Wight Festival.
Artists wishing to enter must provide a short description of their artwork, including the medium and dimensions, alongside an uploaded image through the submission page.
The closing date for entries is Friday 22nd May, with shortlisted artists required to deliver their artwork to Dimbola Museum and Galleries.
The selected artwork will go on display as part of the ‘Experience Hendrix – Isle of Wight Festival 1970’ exhibition from 27th May.
