A pair of young men showcased the Airborne Forces ethos by taking on an extreme physical challenge around the Isle of Wight last weekend in aid of The Veterans Hub in Ryde.
Last Saturday (28th June), UK Armed Forces Day, Louie Dale of 7 PARA RHA and Dillon Gough of 3 PARA completed a punishing 14-hour test of endurance and determination, demonstrating courage, discipline, resilience and self-reliance.
Their challenge included a 15-mile Tactical Advance to Battle (TAB) carrying over 35lbs, a 70-mile cycle ride around the Isle of Wight and a half marathon, finishing at The Veteran Ryde just after 20:00.
Louie and Dillon were joined for the cycle ride and half marathon by Paul Culshaw, who contributed greatly to the team effort on the day.
So far, the inspiring fundraiser has generated over £1,700 for Ryde’s The Veterans Hub, which supports local veterans and their families. There is still time to show your support, with donations being accepted online here.
Louie and Dillon have given heartfelt thanks to Kev Coghlan, Charlie and Kai for providing the welfare support vehicle, Terry Guildford and Michelle Walton for capturing the day with photography, and Paul Culshaw for his efforts on the road and on foot. They have also thanked friends, family and supporters for their encouragement and generous donations.
Their outstanding achievement not only raised vital funds but also highlighted the indomitable spirit of the Airborne Forces on the Isle of Wight.
