Yarmouth RNLI has come to the aid of 3 kayakers off the West coast of the Isle of Wight this afternoon (Monday) after distress flares were spotted by the National Coastwatch Institution at The Needles.
At around 14:15 Solent Coastguard were informed by watchkeepers at the NCI look out of the sighting of distress flares around 2 miles north west of the lighthouse, prompting the immediate launch of Yarmouth RNLI’s All Weather Lifeboat.
The volunteer crew on board the Severn-class lifeboat quickly located the kayakers, who are said to have been in an exhausted state.
All 3 have been taken ashore at Keyhaven, near Hurst Point with Yarmouth ALB due to return to Yarmouth Harbour shortly.
