Emergency services rushed to Ryde Pier yesterday evening after a woman jumped into the water from the railway tracks.
Police were called at 18:51 yesterday, to reports of a concern for welfare at Ryde Pier after a woman stood on the railway tracks, before jumping into the water.
Emergency crews from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, HM Coastguard and Bembridge RNLI rushed to the scene due to the severity of the incident.
Police have confirmed that the woman was rescued from the water and passed into the care of the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA). She was later detained under the Mental Health Act.
Wightlink’s FastCat was temporarily suspended whilst the incident was dealt with.
Blue light colleagues responding stood down at around 21:00.
