At the end of what has been a long and challenging year for all, we would like to wish all of our readers, advertisers and supporters a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
2020 has been a year like no other but Island Echo has been with you every step of the way. Since 1st January we have published a staggering 5,250 articles – an increase of 1,000 year-on-year. That equates to around 100 news stories being delivered to you each and every week, for free. Over 1,200 of these articles have been related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Between Wednesday 23rd December and Monday 4th January you will see less news from us than normal. This is to allow our team to take a much-needed (and hopefully well-deserved) break and to recuperate ready for the year ahead. You will still find new articles being published over the festive period and we will of course bring you all the latest breaking news as it happens.
The commenting system, which has become increasingly popular with readers this year with over 52,000 comments submitted, is now disabled until January.
In early 2021, Island Echo will be introducing new features to the website, will be investing in exciting new technology and will welcome new staff to the team (interested in journalism/digital content production? Drop us an early interest email – [email protected]). Building on the success of 2020, we will continue to deliver all the latest Isle of Wight news around the clock – first, fast and free.
Emails and social networks will be lightly monitored throughout our reduced service period and our telephone lines are now shut. All enquiries should be sent to [email protected] with a response to be expected within 2-3 working days.
