The Wightlink Warriors speedway team have swooped to sign Connor Coles and Kelsey Dugard following their release from fellow South coast club Eastbourne.
Subject to BSPA approval, Connor will join the Smallbrook-based club on a 7.11 average and Kelsey at 5.00.
Today’s news means that the Warriors say goodbye to Nathan Greaves and Rik Mullins for the 2017 season.
Talking about his return to the Island club, Kelsey has said:
“I can’t wait to be back in IOW colours, they welcomed me last year and now I just can’t wait to be spinning wheels for a club I have a lot of time for. I can’t wait to ride with my good mate Captain Cockle again and the rest of the team, and getting to see the kids and fans again. It will be awesome”.
Connor Coles added:
“I’m really happy to be going to the Isle of Wight and I’m glad to be wanted and needed for a great team. I hope the introduction of Kelsey and I can help the club get some silverware.”
A delighted Warriors promoter Barry Bishop said:
“Martin and Jackie jumped at the chance to sign these two riders as soon as they were released – it’s been really frustrating time for me being the other side of the globe knowing that we very much needed to strengthen the team.
“Connor is a rider who we wanted in the side from the start as I love his whole attitude to racing. He always goes well at Smallbrook and comes in to replace Nathan Greaves. I know that Conner will quickly slot into the team and will rapidly become a hit with the fans.
“The second rider, needs absolutely no introduction as we welcome home fans favourite – Kelsey Dugard. I am very pleased to welcome Kelsey back, I just wish he had joined us at the start of the season for many reasons. While he has increased his average, I know he will be very keen to put more on to that quickly. In my view both riders will make a big impact to the team and I look forward to welcome them.
“With these new riders coming in, it means that we sadly have to release Nathan Greaves and Rik Mullins. I would like to thank both riders for their efforts for the club.”
