The Wightlink Warriors are chasing a 24-point comeback against Cradley Heathens today (Tuesday) at Smallbrook Stadium in the Vince Mapley Memorial 2nd leg.
Warriors Team Manager Martin Widman has been given a significant boost with the return of captain Arran Butcher, who is back in the line-up after recovering from a broken hand. Butcher’s return is expected to add much-needed depth and strength to the squad.
Experienced riders Ben Morley and Darryl Ritchings will once again lead the Warriors, joined by 15-year-olds Ryan Ingram and Charlie Southwick. The final team spot was yet to be confirmed at the time of announcement.
Cradley Heathens boss Andy Hawthorn has made his intentions clear by naming comeback rider James Shanes in the number 1 position, alongside the impressive Mark Parker. Captain Danno Verg is also back and aiming to retain the trophy. Longtime Heathens riders Connor Coles and Nathan Hargrave complete a strong and determined visiting line-up.
The night is expected to be packed with action as both teams fight for the title in what promises to be a tense and competitive meeting.
In addition to the Vince Mapley Memorial, Smallbrook Stadium will also host the Essex Driver Training Island Masters GT140 competition, powered by One Estate Agents. Returning riders include Wayne and Max Broadhurst, multi-talented Eddie Kennett, Steve Newsham, last year’s champion Ian Clark and Adam Hawker. With 8 riders per race, fans can expect high-speed, close-contact racing.
Gates open at 17:30, with kids’ racing from 18:10, the riders’ parade at 18:45 and the first main race starting at 19:00.
Entry is priced at £15 for adults, £12 for seniors, and free admission for children aged 16 and under.
