The cross-Solent ferry operator, that was bought by Balfour Beatty Infrastructure Partners earlier this week, have confirmed in a statement that no decisions have been made about bringing new ships to the route.
A spokesperson for Wightlink has said:
“You may have seen a report in the Isle of Wight County Press claiming Wightlink is buying three new ships for the Fishbourne-Portsmouth route.
“Balfour Beatty Infrastructure Partners bought Wightlink earlier in the week from the Macquarie European Infrastructure Fund and the new owners have pledged to continue investing in the business. However no decisions have yet been made about the details.
“Wightlink was disappointed that the County Press wrongly speculated on the nature of the investment. The newspaper has now acknowledged its error and apologised for it on its online version of the story”.
Wightlink will announce details of future investment to media and stakeholders as soon as it can.
