Wightlink’s St Clare car ferry has diverted in response to a Mayday alert in the Solent this morning (Friday).
A medical emergency has occurred onboard a yacht mid-Solent, leading to a large scale response from emergency services, the Royal Navy and Wightlink.
HMS Severn has responded to the incident alongside St Clare and Gosport and Fareham Independent Lifeboat has also arrived on scene.
It’s understood that the casualty has been transferred from the yacht onto the lifeboat and a paramedic has been winched down from Coastguard Rescue 175 helicopter.
The yacht is now being escorted into Portsmouth Harbour by 2 Ministry of Defence Police RIBs.
Passengers onboard the 11:00 sailing from Fishbourne have been delayed.
UPDATE @ 11:45 – With the situation in hand, the Wightlink car ferry has been released and is continuing to Portsmouth Gunwharf.
