Wightlink is adding extra weekend sailings to its Summer timetable this year, it has been announced.
The cross-Solent operator says the move has been made to provide more choice for Isle of Wight residents returning home from the mainland via Portsmouth.
This follows feedback on timetabling from customers who spoke to ferry company managers at recent consultation events.
The new timetable will apply on Fridays and Saturdays between Friday 4th April and Saturday 1st November 2025 only…
| Portsmouth-Fishbourne | Fishbourne-Portsmouth |
| 21:15 | 22:10 |
| 23:10 | 00:05 |
| 01:00 | 02:00 |
These Summer timetable sailings on Fridays and Saturdays will replace the 22:15 and 23:59 from Portsmouth and 23:05 and 01:00 from Fishbourne.
The changes will also give freight customers more choice of overnight sailings to ship essential goods to and from the Isle of Wight.
Dean Murphy, Head of Port Operations, says:
“As an Islander myself, I’m delighted we have changed our weekend timetables this summer so we can go to mainland events and return home later to Fishbourne. Many people made this request at our Meet the Team evenings, so we have reduced the gap between the midnight and 03:00 sailings.
“It now means we can head home from London on the 23:00 train on Fridays and Saturdays and then catch the convenient 01:00 sailing from Gunwharf.”

Click bait at its finest. No ‘extra’ sailings, just a change to the timetable.
That is true, but the times are more appealing.
Well done Wightlink
One extra sailing per day is not the plural.
I suppose the extra “sailingS” cover the weekend. Doesn’t help me returning from London on the train arriving at Portsmouth at 23.07hrs as a foot passenger when there is no Cat to jump on.
Just a short walk to the car ferry terminal,
wear a pair of trainers.
Cant make in three minutes and I walk every time. Perhaps I need skates but my age is against me!
There’s no “well done Wightlink” about it, headline very misleading, they are not adding extra sailings, they are just replacing other times.
Better times than the old times.
The 23:59 Portsmouth sailing was reliably the cheapest way to get a car onto the island (WL or RF), with quick demarcation and disembarkation.
Now the cheap fares are on the 01:00 and the 03:00, and increased a bit from last August.
Thanks for that, Wightlink (not).
