The Wightlink Warriors have this week confirmed that current reserve Matt Saul is to leave the club and will be replaced by Nick Phillips.
Matt informed the Warriors management that due to increased work commitments, he would prefer to be released when the Warriors could find a suitable replacement for him.
Club Co-promoter Barry Bishop said:
“Matt came to us some time back and said that he found the travel for his speedway and work commitments challenging and would like to be replaced when we found someone. Now we have found someone and Matt has stepped aside to allow Nick Phillips to have a chance to impress on our big track.
“Martin Widman, Neil Vatcher and I would like to thank Matt for embracing the Warrior way, for being so open with us about his work schedule and continuing with us while we searched for a rider. We all wish him well and he is always welcome at the Andrew Younie Smallbrook Stadium”.
Commenting on the change, Warriors Team Manager Neil Vatcher said:
“While we are all really sad to see Matt leave the camp, we are very pleased to be able to announce Nick’s inclusion.
“We were alerted to Nick’s availability a short while ago and Barry and I have both kept an eye on him since. We have been impressed with what we have seen and quickly discussed his inclusion to the squad with him.
“Nick started the season with Eastbourne and is looking forward to getting back on to the larger faster tracks and settling in quickly with his new team the Warriors when he joins them at Stoke on Sunday.”
Nick – who recently celebrated his 28th birthday – hails from Dulverton in Somerset, is based in Exeter and is in his first full season of league speedway racing having previously concentrated on the motocross circuits.
