Wight Tri’s Helen Scholes delivered a heroic performance at the Nottingham National Water Sports Centre last weekend (Saturday 18th May), securing automatic qualification for the 2026 European Sprint Triathlon Championships.
Competing in a sprint triathlon qualifier, Scholes completed a 750m lake swim, a 20K bike loop and a 5K run to finish 3rd in the 55-59 age group – a result that clinches her place in the GB age group team for 2026.
She now turns her focus to Eton Dorney next Sunday, where she is set to take on another triathlon challenge.
Meanwhile, teammates Jan Fletcher and Liz Dunlop were flying the Wight Tri flag in Southport at the standard distance triathlon, also with their eyes set on GB team qualification.
The event featured a 1500m lake swim, a 40K bike ride along the Southport seafront, and a 10K run to the finish.
Fletcher stormed to 1st place in the 50-54 age group and was 16th female overall out of 118 competitors. Dunlop secured 2nd place in the 65-69 age group and finished 90th female overall – with both athletes now qualified for the 2026 European Standard Triathlon Championships.
