Several members of Wight Tri delivered impressive performances at Sunday’s Blenheim Palace Sprint Triathlon, which doubled as the British and English Triathlon Championships and a qualifier for the 2026 European Sprint Triathlon Championships.
Held in Oxfordshire, the event featured a 750m lake swim, a hilly 20km bike ride, and a 5.4km run through the grounds of Blenheim Palace.
Jan Fletcher had a standout race, finishing 6th in the 50-54 category with a time of 1:23:12 – securing automatic qualification for the 2026 European Championships. Helen Scholes also placed 6th in the 55-59 group, clocking 1:33:27, having already qualified at an earlier event.
In the men’s 60-64 race, Nick Curwood finished 16th in 1:25:42, while Trevor Prior placed 35th with a time of 1:46:22. Both enjoyed solid outings among tough competition.
Veteran triathlete Liz Dunlop finished 8th in the 65-69 category in 1:43:31, despite a navigational error on the run. Her result was enough to earn her a spot at the 2026 Europeans in the 70-74 category.
All 3 women – Jan, Helen and Liz – are part of the IW Talented Athlete Scheme and have thanked the IW Sports Council and Wightlink for their continued support.
Next up for Jan and Liz is the Cardiff Standard Triathlon, a World Championships qualifier in 2 weeks’ time.
