Wight Tri members Steve Snary, Laura Curwood and Nick Curwood have completed 2 separate triathlon events with strong results and personal bests on show in both Swansea and Dorney Lake last weekend.
Steve Snary took on the Swansea Half Ironman on Sunday (14th July) – a demanding 70.3-mile event made up of a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike ride and a half marathon run. Having started training over winter to overcome a lack of swimming experience, Steve braved near-wetsuit-ban temperatures and completed the swim in 53 minutes.
He went on to complete the cycling leg in 3 hours and 36 minutes, before enduring a punishing 13.1-mile run in full sun along the seafront in 2 hours and 20 minutes. Steve crossed the finish line in 7:00:00 and is now preparing for a full Ironman in Tenby next year.
Meanwhile, Laura and Nick Curwood returned to Dorney Lake on the same day (14th July), where they completed the Super Sprint triathlon – a fast-paced 400m swim, 10km bike and 2.5km run.
Laura exited the swim in 08:03, just ahead of Nick in 08:11. Nick then surged ahead with a personal best on the bike of 15:55, with Laura completing the leg in 20:37. The final run saw Laura power home in 9:05 and Nick in 10:15.
Nick placed 2nd overall in the men’s category with a total time of 37:25. Laura finished 4th among the women in 41:12, achieving PBs in both her bike and run segments.
The results mark another successful weekend for Wight Tri, with all 3 athletes already looking ahead to future events.
