As more than 230 areas in England head to the polls to fill seats on their local councils, the Isle of Wight is not one of them. But why?
Local elections are taking place over the water in Southampton and Portsmouth, where both unitary authorities have seats up for grabs.
When changes were made to the way the council was run, it led to the Island being placed on a different voting cycle than other parts of the country.
On the Island, the Isle of Wight Council elected members in 2021, with all 39 seats being filled.
It saw the authority swing from Conservatives to one with no overall control, as new faces joined the authority and the council leader lost his seat.
Since then there has been one by-election for the seat of Brighstone, Calbourne and Shalfleet which was formerly Conservative’s Steve Hastings but went to Liberal Democrat’s Nick Stewart.
The next major election for the Isle of Wight Council and town, parish and community councils will take place in May 2025.
If you don’t know why, you shouldn’t be allowed to vote when the time comes.
Nobody should vote anyway and most dont even read about the manifesto’s and pledges from the party so what’s the point in it all?
Manifesto’s and pledges are all false promises.
To be honest the calibre of people who will be seeking re-election in the future is so poor.
I wonder if we should come under the control of the mainland and scrap our council.
Cannot wait for May 2025 ….sadly no one party can still be trusted .. and the current IWC are appallingly hopeless .. but we live in hope that one day a party with the right moral compass .. will lead the country back to being the United Kingdom ( and no Pop Up Bob ) never to be seen or heard of again .

Little point voting as all the parties are unable to better than another, it’s always been that party in power always wrong and the others could do better. We could as a country be doing alot worse.
Are you sure about that? The Tory government should be held to account for mass murder, theft by deception, inside marketing. The list goes on. Hand the state to the real people not these fat cats that go to charter house and the likes that have no idea what real life is about!
