Shanklin Road, Whiteley Bank (A3020) has been closed from its junction with Ventnor/Canteen Road (Whiteley Bank Roundabout) to junction with Apse Manor Road for a distance of 1368 metres today (Tuesday).
The emergency road closure is for repairs to directional sign.
The diversion will affect these streets: Canteen Road, Newchurch Bridleway 33b, Ventnor Road, Newport Road, Whitecross Lane, Sandy Lane, Landguard Manor Road, Landguard Road, High Street, Victoria Avenue and Godshill Road.
Diversion route(s) will be signed at the time of closure. Reasonable facilities will be provided to allow access to adjacent premises while the road is closed.
From 10:00 hours on 27th October 2020, for a maximum period of five days or until the works are complete, whichever is sooner.
Southern Vectis’ Route 2 has been affected by the closure.
“Owing to emergency roadworks, route 2 buses are currently unable to serve the stops between Whiteley Bank and Clarendon Road.
“Buses will instead divert via Apse Heath, Lake Morrisons and Whitecross Lane until further notice.”
UPDATE @ 13:37 – Shanklin Road has now reopened to traffic and buses have now returned to their normal line of route.

I bet there aren’t any signs warning of this at Blackwater or Rookley – unless it’s the usual utterly unhelpful “Road closed ahead”.
When did they but up the signs saying about this
They need to close a road to change a sign? They must be stark staring mad. How dare they inconvenience people for such a trivial reason
