Wightlink is advising customers who rely on wheelchairs or mobility scooters to use alternative services to their Ryde-Portsmouth Fastcat service over the next 3 days.
Routine maintenance to the Portsmouth Harbour passenger gangway is being carried out today (Tuesday) and on Wednesday and Thursday this week too.
During this time, customers with wheelchairs or mobility scooters are advised to use the operator’s Fishbourne-Portsmouth car ferry service instead. Alternatively, Hovertravel’s Ryde-Southsea service is being offered if you have a Wightlink ticket or pass.
The free Hover Bus service is available between Hovertravel Southsea and Portsmouth Harbour.
Wightlink apologises for any changes to your travel plans.
UPDATE THURSDAY – Works have been completed and customers in wheelchairs and mobility scooters are once again able to use the Ryde-Portsmouth service.

Well at least they are treating wheelchair users a ‘little’ bit better this time, after having turned them away for almost a year with no alternative other than a car ferry with no bus connections. Maybe Wightlink need to plan a little more to be able to accommodate ALL users of their service whether they are able to walk or not.
They could have used hover or car ferry then as well
I know it’s a STUPID question…
But WHY didn’t Wightlink do this maintenance at the same time as the Portsmouth Harbour Terminal work was being done? Certain users were stopped from being able to travel then, and now we have another interruption to their travels!
I think it’s terrible.
