Westridge Golf Club has welcomed its new Captains for the 2026-27 season, alongside a busy schedule of competitions held across the final week of March on the Isle of Wight.
Members gathered on Saturday 29th March for the traditional Captains Drive-in, with Mark Royl as Co-Club and Men’s Captain, Helen Whittaker as Co-Club and Ladies Captain, John Clenton as Senior Captain and Alfie Boxall as Junior Captain.
The new Captains each made ceremonial tee shots from the old first tee in front of fellow members on what was described as a crisp morning.
A 9-hole Texas Scramble followed, with scoring tightly contested across the field. Outgoing Captain Zane Cohen teamed up with Bowy White, Malcolm Prouten and Barbara Sleap to take victory with 25 points on countback.
Finishing runners-up with the same score were Bob Singh-Bansi, Peter Dixcey, Jill Prouten and Philip Spreckley, while Ernie Moore, Tom Moriarty, Roger Merrifield and Claire Matejowsky placed 3rd with 24 points.
Nearest the pin was won by Zane Cohen, while the ‘Spot the Tee Shots’ competition was won by Bob Singh-Bansi, with Renny Talbot and Chris Wilkinson also picking up prizes.
A raffle held during the event raised a total of £635 for the Captains Charity, Diabetes Group Isle Of Wight.
Earlier in the week, competition play saw Pete Holton win the Medal on 25th March with a net 67 on countback, ahead of Tom Moriarty in 2nd and Steve Sansford in 3rd with a net 68.
In the 9 Hole Stableford held across Friday and Saturday (27th-28th March), Gary Cass secured victory with 20 points on countback, narrowly ahead of Bowy White, also on 20 points, while Rod Little finished 3rd with 19 points.
