The Wightlink Warriors speedway team are back to their winning ways having trumped Coventry Storm by 52 points to 38 last night (Thursday).
The Island side sped to overall victory as they were roared on by a large crowd at the Andrew Younie Smallbrook Stadium, despite losing Nick Phillips in the second heat of the night when he crashed heavily.
The racing incident led to Phillips being conveyed to hospital with a suspected broken arm, but thankfully x-rays confirmed the injury to be a dislocated elbow. Staff at St Mary’s Hospital were able to put the elbow back into place allowing Phillips to join his team mates on the 23:00 ferry back to Portsmouth.

Nick’s crash came as a result of a coming together as all 4 riders as they entered the first bend and although Phillips was, of course, unable to take his place in the rerun, Tyler Govier made light of his partner’s absence to take the chequered flag.
There were gasps of astonishment as number 3 rider Mark Baseby won in the fastest time of the season so far for 4 laps of the 385 metre circuit and that was the first of 4 straight wins for the Kent-based Warrior. He and his Warrior team mates provided 10 of the 15 heat winners with only the top Coventry duo of Liam Carr and Mitchell Davey offering any real resistance.
