UPDATED: After a well earned break following a hectic spell that saw them race 3 matches in just 5 days, the Wightlink Warriors speedway team return to National Trophy track action at the Andrew Younie Stadium on Thursday.
Following on from their emphatic win over Stoke the week before last, the Warriors will be looking to deal with the ambush the visiting Mildenhall Fen Tigers will no doubt be keen to set up upon their arrival from Suffolk.
Team management are currently awaiting an update as to whether the knee injury suffered by Warriors’ number 1 Benji Compton in the home clash with Stoke has healed sufficiently for him to be able to return to the side.
The Island’s MP, Andrew Turner, will this week be attending the Warriors’ meeting.
UPDATE @ 14:10 – It has now been confirmed that Benji Compton is not fit enough to ride in Thursday’s home National Trophy encounter with the Mildenhall Fen Tigers.
Team manager Neil Vatcher has moved quickly to replace Benji and has secured the services of 22-year-old Joseph ‘Joe’ Jacobs who, after taking last year out of the sport to earn money to buy brand new equipment to compete in the top flight, has returned to ride for the Belle Vue Aces in this year’s Sky Sports Elite League.
