Islanders are being urged to spare just a few hours to support this year’s Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal, with volunteers particularly needed in East Cowes, Ryde, Shanklin, Newport and the West Wight.
The Royal British Legion (RBL) is looking for people across the Isle of Wight to help deliver its annual fundraising campaign in the run-up to Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday.
More than 3,500 volunteers help the charity deliver the Poppy Appeal each year, raising vital funds for veterans and other members of the Armed Forces community who have served and sacrificed for their country.
As well as volunteers who can give a few hours of their time, the charity is looking for people interested in becoming Poppy Appeal Organisers.
The role involves organising a team of volunteers and helping to deliver the appeal locally, with training and support provided by the RBL.
Claire Apsey, Poppy Appeal Manager for the Royal British Legion on the Isle of Wight, has said:
“We would encourage anyone who is interested in volunteering for the Poppy Appeal to get in touch with us to find out more.
“If you are looking for a more active part in the Appeal, we would love to have you as a Poppy Appeal Organiser. This role is crucial to delivering the Appeal and organising a team of dedicated volunteers. You will be fully supported in the role, including training before the Poppy Appeal.

The Poppy Appeal is the Royal British Legion’s largest annual fundraising campaign.
Money raised helps the charity provide expert advice and practical support to the Armed Forces community, including assistance with housing, debt and money matters, employment and physical and mental health.
The RBL is the UK’s largest charity dedicated to supporting serving and former members of the Armed Forces and their families. It is also responsible for championing Remembrance and safeguarding the Armed Forces Covenant.
