A through road in Seaview has been closed following the discovery of a deep void this afternoon (Friday). It was around 13:00 that the 1-metre-wide hole on Steyne Road was first reported, with engineers from Southern Water swiftly sent out to assess the situation. It has been confirmed that the water is not from a fresh supply; it is dirty but doesn’t appear to contain raw sewage. It appears a pipe runs down the centre of the road, indicating a possible source of the problem. Steyne Road has been closed between the junctions of Somerset Road and Ryde Road as investigations get underway. Engineers are looking into it…
