A survey has been launched to gather the views of Islanders on local healthcare as the NHS and the Isle of Wight Council work together to improve health and social care services on the Island.
The Isle of Wight Health and Care Plan was published in 2019 and sets out the health and care priorities for the Island over 3 years to help meet the needs of the local population and support people to lead healthy, independent lives. The plan also sets out how organisations share a commitment to work more closely together to improve health and care to make services sustainable.
With the plan up for renewal, Islanders are being asked to help improve the services offered locally.
A public survey has launched which is available online at www.iowhealthandcare.co.uk/conversations. The survey opened on Thursday 17th February and will close at 20:00 on Sunday 20th March 2022.
Michele Legg, Interim Chair of the Island’s Integrated Care Partnership, has said:
“Over the past 18 months the people of the Isle of Wight have shared their views on some of the things that are important to them; such as better access to GP appointments and NHS Dental services and improved mental health support for adults, children and young people.
“We want to hear what is working well for people and what we need to continue doing, what is not working and needs to change and where we might have gaps that need addressing. Their experiences will help to shape the future of healthcare on the Island over the next three years.”
A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Council adds:
“There is no doubt the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted on the delivery of health and care services and efforts have been redirected to ensure we could respond to the immense challenges that the pandemic has created. However, we have still made progress in relation to the delivery of the health and care plan and in some areas have even exceeded our expectations.”
Darren Cattell, Chief Executive at IOW NHS Trust, has said:
“The needs of our local community are changing and UK Government legislation means the NHS in England, at both a local and regional level, will begin reorganising with a focus on supporting different parts of the health and care sectors to work together. Developing the next phase of the Island’s health and care plan is a timely opportunity and I encourage individuals and voluntary groups to ensure their views are shared with us.”
Alongside the survey, local community groups are encouraged to hold their own health and care conversations and discuss what’s important to them, so that they can help shape the future of Island healthcare.

Can Michelle Legg improve possibility of actually getting a NHS dentist, by employing some.
Is this a sign that the authorities are at last waking up to the fact that over development has greatly weakened the healthcare situation ?. Where are the new Doctors Surgeries that were supposed to be part of some of these developments ? Indeed they should have been made a condition.
Stop older people from moving here from the mainland, unless they have there own private healthcare.
And stop people that have no job from settling here, or at least some sort of visa system…. No housing benefit for newcomers for there first three years.
Encourage local youngsters with proper wages to stay here and join the NHS or private healthcare ect.
And finally, have our own border force.
That is fine, so would that mean that ignorant people like yourself would be denied treatment on the Mainland if required.

Dental services are desperately needed
Just another excuse to charge us more via unjustifiable council tax rises.
Sort out the ferries so I can get to appointments on the mainland. Also sort out the blood tests. I have to go to Southampton for some tests as they no longer do them on the island!

Can’t even build a bridge over the Medina. So no chance over the Solent.
Which sane person would go to St Mary’s for treatment.

No they are not. The local community wants timely access to GPs, dentists, therapists, and diagnostics when they need it. How is that changing?
The only thing that’s changed it that the services are less timely and harder to access

Millions could be put into health care if the benefit system was reformed, to many getting it when there are jobs out there, workers should be better off but often they are not, no way is this right, everybody can do something and shouldnt be allowed not to,
If it isn’t obvious to the people in charge, they shouldn’t be in charge.
They just do not seem to listen to the people here.
Not good enough, simple
I agree with the comments below. We should be able to be with our elderly parent(s) when they’re admitted. It’s heart wrenching to leave them or have them taken away in an ambulance and not see them again or know what state they’re in or what’s happening. Especially if they have dementia. It’s barbaric actually. To have them stay in and still not be able to reassure them I’d help speak on their behalf is awful and time wasting as information is lost and communication is non existent and vital things go untold. It should be rethought now that covid restrictions everywhere else are being revoked. Don’t lef any more families lose their mums, dads abd loved ones without saying goodbye ever again or at least be with them when they need us the most. It’s tragic really
