Members of Upton Girls WI have come together for a vibrant ‘pink’ evening in support of Wear It Pink Day, raising awareness for those affected by breast cancer and collecting almost £200 for Breast Cancer Now.
The group dressed for the occasion, donning their best pink scarves, hats and trainers while enjoying a range of fun games and activities. There was even a touch of pampering, as members had their nails painted pink by the group’s own nail technician, Amanda.
A sales table offered a tempting selection of home-made goodies, including cakes, jam and shortbread biscuits, which helped boost the evening’s fundraising total.
One of the most moving parts of the event came when member Tara bravely shared her personal cancer journey. She told the group how her stage 3 cancer had not been detected on a mammogram, and that an MRI scan only revealed a small area of concern. Over the past 5 years, Tara has undergone several surgeries, including a mastectomy.
2 other members also spoke about being cancer survivors, reinforcing the importance of regular check-ups and early detection.
The evening was filled with laughter, friendship and reflection, and the £200 raised will go towards supporting Breast Cancer Now – the UK’s largest breast cancer charity.
