An unsafe metal structure has been removed from the top of a building in East Cowes this afternoon (Thursday).

The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were mobilised to Castle Street in the town at just gone 15:00 when a member of the public reported that a metal duct was hanging in a precarious position.

An officer was sent to the scene to assess the situation before the Aerial Ladder Platform from Newport was turned out to assist.

The rusty air duct was cut free and safely lowered to the ground to prevent any possible injury should it have fallen in windy conditions.

Fire crews left the scene by 16:20.
