Iain McKie has reaffirmed his commitment to real and ongoing accountability to the Island’s voters should he be elected as the Island’s MP on Thursday (7th May).
Outlining plans for connecting with residents of all ages, McKie reveals that following discussion with newly-elected Youth MP Connor Dyer, he has agreed to regular meetings with Dyer in order to update him on his progress, stressing that the Island’s young people have every right to know what’s happening within their local government.
McKie also states that he is willing to commit to publishing a weekly report.
Accountability and transparency have been recurrent themes within McKie’s campaign, following his campaign pledges to regularly canvas local opinion, publish his expenses as they are incurred and his pledge to agree to a voluntary recall if 15% of Island residents are dissatisfied with his work and raise a recall petition within 28-days.
In recent years the conduct and probity of our MPs, including on the Isle of Wight, has been called into question. McKie’s commitment to a new era with a present, accountable MP could prove to be a thoroughly welcome change.
