The occupants of a small hatchback have miraculously avoided death or serious injury after their car was crushed by a tree as Storm Darragh hit last night (Friday).
The incident occurred just off the A3054/Bouldnor Road at around 23:00 last night and saw a Chevrolet Matiz crushed after a part of the tree collided with the vehicle’s roof, trapping the occupants inside.
Island Echo understands that the duo were helped from the car by some good samaritans who managed to extricate those trapped through the rear doors. It is unclear if those involved sustained any serious injuries.
The tree – which had blocked the road for some time – was then chopped up and moved from the road into the Bouldnor Viewpoint Car Park.
People received a serious weather warning
from the Government on their phones,
yet they still risk theirs and other peoples lives
going out.
Stay at home in such conditions, majority of
people need when in Lockdown.
The serious weather warning that none of us were sent because the island is not in a red warning area?
I got the warning and I live in Seaview,
it came through yesterday, but too be honest
they have been going on about this storm
on the news for days, so no excuses.
We all knew it was coming.
Some people don’t value their lives
I never signed up for alerts from the Gov’t as far as I’m aware only 3 people did. You and two others apparently. Anyone could just as well be in danger at home. We lost our gable end in the hurricane of ’87. Fortunately we weren’t in the house at the time and the car never got crushed either. I bet you wear a mask on your own in your car.
Never wore a mask, never had an experimental
vaccine.
Vitamin D is worth it’s weight in gold,
well recommended.
At least you have some sense.
Really so everyone received that warning did they? Get your facts right before spouting complete nonsense
Don’t you listen to the news or read the news,
you might learn something if you do.
So sad.
Wow talk about opionated, you have no idea why the people in the car were out, they may of had to work or were going home from work, thank god they weren’t injured is all I can say
So pleased you escaped intact. When reading many an article and comments involving Rtcs with trees, it goes to prove trees can jump out on you. A future story for the grandchildren. Xx
Wow! I drove past today and hoped nobody was in there when the tree fell.
Good effort to the locals for helping these people escape
I’ll have some of their luck please ! ! !
Oddly …. 8am Friday guy in hi vis got out of a van & was inspecting that tree ! ! !
I passed that this morning and hoped anyone in the car got out OK.
They were very lucky indeed.
I’m glad they did as it was one of the huge conifers in someone’s garden across the road.
