After more than 35 years as the Island’s number one commercial radio station, Isle of Wight Radio is preparing to turn back the clock with a brand new station.
This month, the Newport-based business will launch its brand-new sister station, Isle of Wight Radio Retro, bringing a nostalgic soundtrack and the unmistakable charm of classic local radio to the Island’s airwaves.
Broadcasting on the Island’s new Small Scale DAB multiplex, Isle of Wight Radio Retro will officially go live this month. Listeners can expect the thrill of rediscovering old favourites, featuring iconic hits from the 70s, 80s, and 90s, alongside the warmth, humour, and personality that made local radio so memorable.
Every element – from jingles to presentation style – has been carefully designed to evoke fond memories of radio from decades past.
The launch also represents a significant step forward for local broadcasting, as Isle of Wight Radio joins the Island’s Small Scale DAB rollout, providing listeners with more choice and improved digital access.
Claire John, Managing Director of Isle of Wight Radio, said:
“We’re absolutely delighted to help bring small scale DAB radio to the Isle of Wight. As well as offering our main station on DAB, Retro will provide something a little different — a fresh yet familiar sound for the Island. We can’t wait for listeners to tune in and enjoy the music and memories.”
