UPDATED: An overheated tumble drier has sparked the evacuation of a block of flats in Oakvale, Ryde this evening (Thursday).
2 appliances from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are in attendance at the scene having been alerted to the incident at just before 19:20.
Residents of the block have been evacuated following the activation of the building’s alarm system.
UPDATE @ 19:55 – The tumble drier has been removed from the property by firefighters. The overheating of the appliance caused the alarms to be triggered, although no fire has been identified.
Residents have been allowed back inside the building and both appliances from nearby Ryde Fire Station have left the scene.
