3 people who committed a violent burglary in Ryde back in 2019, in which a man was seriously assaulted with a knife, have today (Friday) been jailed for a combined total of more than 33 years.
Police were called to a flat at Leavington House on East Hill Road shortly before 20:00 on 27th December 2019, where a man in his 40s had sustained injuries to his face, back and arm, caused by a knife. The incident involved an Armed Police response, as reported by Island Echo at the time.
During the incident, approximately £1,500 in cash was stolen from the address.
Following an investigation, officers charged 3 people – who were known to the victim – with aggravated burglary and wounding with intent. They are:
- Timothy Peter Brown, 40, of no fixed abode
- Graham Smith, 41, of George Street in Ryde
- Louise Victoria April Spence, 30 years, of Station Road in Brading
The case went to trial at Portsmouth Crown Court on Monday (18th January) after the trio denied any wrongdoing. However, during Day 4 of the trial yesterday (Thursday), all 3 pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary. Smith and Brown also admitted wounding with intent. The charge of wounding with intent in relation to Spence was withdrawn.
Appearing at the same court today (Friday 22nd January), Graham Smith was jailed for 12 years, Timothy Brown was jailed for 12 years and 4 months and Louise Spence was jailed for 9-and-a-half years.
The trio have already spent some time on remand, which will be taken into account.
Detective Constable Iain Robertson has said:
“This was a nasty attack which left a man with a number of serious injuries.
“Brown, Smith and Spence all initially tried to deny their involvement in the offence, but with the odds stacked against them they threw in the towel and admitted their guilt.
“We are pleased that these three have now been brought to justice, and hope this reassures the community that we simply do not tolerate this kind of violence.”
Leavington House has been featured on Island Echo on more than 1 occasion, with multiple drugs raids over the years. It was also the scene of a murder in 2016 – although both are unrelated to this incident from December 2019.

Good ridence to bad rubbish, this low life could never contribute anything to society…
Shame the taxpayers have to feed them, even pay for the best medical care for them, there’s no justice…
Low life scum hope you rot
Who arranged for these low life evil looking vermin to be shipped here? Hold them to account for poisoning the island, and stop building free homes for them to move into.
Brown is an islander and been in and out of prison, brought up in Sea view
Exactly, Vote this c ou ncil out next chance we get, for they will fill this Island with such.

Here’s a question worth thinking about. How many of the low life scum has Covid taken out? It’s a pity in wasn’t just directed at them instead of decent people.
Their no different from Covid, they are part of it, very infectious….
looking at the state of them all id stay they where drug addicts , hope they rot .
Skag heads
Scum
Yeh! A lethal killer disease that only targets the scum. IF ONLY
Why would someone have £1500 just laying around the house?
Not drug related my arse.
and why did the victim tell them that there was this cash in the flat ……..bit more to that than meets the eye.
You have no idea, stop blaming the victim. They may have just sold a car to these clowns and they came back to steel the money before the victim had a chance to put it in the bank. You have no idea. Stop victim blaming!
Just because people have cash in their houses dosen’t make them a drug dealer. £1500 is hardly a lot of cash.
“Why would someone have £1500 just laying around the house” And so that makes it OK for them to be assaulted and robbed?
Stop victim blaming. It’s possible they had a win on the horses. The reason does not matter. Stop victim blaming.
Many people save at home now as banks risky to enter and no interest anyway.
makes no difference, the individual concerned could have obtained that money from anywhere, that is not the point….he told them he had it, otherwise they would have been unaware of its existence. He would have known they were scum bags beforehand
Why do people always comment on the victims supposedly bad life. HINDSIGHT always wins. Why comment on something you know nothing about. It’s the 10 watters as usùal
Not everyone keeps their money in the bank! I have lots of cash lying around the house! No point in keeping it in the bank where it earns practically no interest. Does that make me a drug dealer? You are yet another example of the intellectually challenged contributor to this website.
Where do you live again
These type of addicts never give back to Society they just take take take ! Losers all of them, the money that will be spent on their failed detox’s is unbelievable!
Yet some on here say that homeless people are ‘the’ victims, not here the chap wasn’t.
Looking at the quivering lower lip & fear on Mr Minerals face, it appears like someone lost their “minerals” at the words “9 years”
Junkie scum
I see it’s the same old low life scum trolls commenting on here once again. All of you need to get a life.I bet none have you have got the balls to say anything like this to a drug addicts face. You are all keyboard warrior cowards.I certainly dont condone what these three have done, but you are all sick and disgusting excuses for human beings.People addicted to drugs need help.God save you all.
Utter bull*hit, drug addiction is purely self inflicted. The biggest *iss take is scum like this are all claiming PIP and sickness benefits for the side affects it is causing to buy even more snort with, while genuine sick and disabled people are having to PROVE their illnesses, or get THEIR money stopped, and have even died because of it.
Narrow minded fool.
Druggies took out a dealer that’s all that happened here.
Everyone knows it.
Everyone ranting on, addiction has killed and stole there lives, covid would of done same. Stay safe people
