A group of travellers have set up camp in a field in Ryde.
The incursion happened at the tail end of last week on land off Smallbrook Lane, which is owned by the Isle of Wight Council.
4 caravans and associated vehicles can be seen at the unofficial site.
The Isle of Wight Council has been informed and investigations are underway.
A statement has been requested from the council but at the time of publishing it had not been received
UPDATE – Island Echo understands that the caravans belong to one Island-based family, who had been located on Tesco’s land at Westridge.
The coronavirus pandemic has resulted in them having to leave campsites and find other locations to reside.
UPDATE – An Isle of Wight Council spokesperson confirmed:
“A number of caravans on land in the authority’s ownership were reported to the Council at the end of last week.
“The Isle of Wight council is investigating, which will include a visit to the site by a liaison officer.
“Once the current situation is fully understood, the council will be in a position to consider what action to take.”
