Those hoping to use Island Line trains today (New Year’s Eve) will have to think again as strike action gets underway.
Services are suspended between Ryde Pier Head and Shanklin for the entire day as staff walk about in the continuing row over the role of guards on trains.
The latest RMT industrial action – the first of a further 3 planned strikes in January – comes as revellers head out for drinks and parties tonight to see in 2018.
Buses are replacing trains to the following timetable:

Andy Mellows, South Western Railway’s Managing Director has said:
“The last few months have been challenging, with industrial action and poor performance, making life difficult for everyone. I had hoped to start the New Year on a more positive note, instead I have to tell you that the RMT has announced three further strikes for January 8, 10 and 12”.
