The last operational train running on Island Line has developed a fault resulting in services being suspended once again this morning (Monday).
Engineers worked hard last week to bring ‘007’ back into service on Friday, but by Saturday lunchtime the train had failed.
Train services between Ryde Pier Head and Shanklin have not operated over the weekend and disruption is expected to last for the remainder of today. It is hoped an hourly service will resume on Tuesday.
A replacement bus service is in operation.
Island Line is due to close for a 3 month period from 4th January to allow works to take place ahead of the introduction of the brand new Class 434 trains in 2021.
It’s rumoured that train 007 will be preserved on the Island at the Isle of Wight Steam Railway when it is taken off the tracks for the last time.
UPDATE @ 08:26 – Engineers have been able to bring 1 train back into service sooner than anticipated.
An hourly timetable is now in action with trains departing Ryde Pier Head at xx:49 and Shankllin at xx:18.
Good news. Well done to the Train care guys onece again. See they are working on a second train as well.
The engineers need a bonus as a thank you for managing to keep the old girls running for as long as they have.

Seems unlikely, the cabs are tiny and anyone in the saloon would easily smell it. Note the photo is a good few years old, before her latest overhaul and repaint.
