2 main roads through the middle of Ryde are to be improved during the month of October, Island Roads has confirmed.
Motorists can expect significant disruption when sections of Green Street are reconstructed and resurfaced in work starting next Monday (6th October). The work there is expected to last 7 working days, continuing until 14th October,
There will be a few days rest from the mayhem before similar work is carried out on Queen’s Road from 20th October 20 – also lasting 7 working days until 28th October.
As the work seeks to address the underlying issues that have caused the surface to deteriorate quicker than expected, deeper-than-usual excavations are required, meaning the roads must remain closed at all times during the projects.
If possible, the roads may be opened over the weekend as long as it is safe to do so. Pedestrian access will be maintained.
An Island Roads spokesman has said:
“It is sadly not possible to undertake work of this nature in busy roads without causing some disruption. However, addressing the issues that have caused deterioration of the road surface will hopefully reduce the need for future maintenance.
“We would like to thank residents and road users for their understanding and co-operation in advance.”

Remind me where all the HGVs go instead of Green St, is it along Ryde sea front after squeezing down Union Street and around the tight right hand bend at the bottom? Or is it a circular route around Lake Sandown?
There are too many large vehicles on this small island
it’s no wonder the island is falling apart.
HGV’s are a primary cause of the roads conditions along with previous repairs being done on the cheap.
Yeah resurface with crap and cheap material and in several months of rain and cold weather it’ll all be breaking up again . Island roads will never learn and it’ll be disruption all over again.
