Armed Police were deployed to Sandown this morning (Saturday) when a member of the public reported seeing someone with a firearm.
Officers descended on the area of High Street and Esplanade at around 11:00.
It didn’t take long for the facts of the incident to be ascertained, with it being determined that the firearm was in fact a toy gun.
A male from Sandown was carrying a Star Wars-style plastic gun.
The Armed Response Unit and other colleagues stood down from the incident shortly after.

We are so lucky to have police officers willing to respond to any call. Thankfully this was not a serious incident, but the officers didn’t know that when they responded to the shout.
We used to run around the streets with Johnnie 7s, do that now the idiots would phone the SAS.
Now the Irish are not a threat, we know who to ‘thank’ for such over reaction. The growing enemy within. Nice to see the terrorist low life ‘woman’ is now allowed back into the UK yet of course with terrorists dna clones for us all to keep to create misery later for the next generation.
Lost respect and faith in the UK Government now.
Only now? Why not back when Blair came into power?
Mark, because I ‘expected’ such with Labour, but never, ever thought the Tories would faun to such.
Hence the loss of faith now, as I never ‘expected’ anything different from Blair or Labour.
Whilst Blair started the rot, others have done nothing to improve matters.
Yes indeed Mark, Blair sent British troops into Iraq and we are where we are today because of him and, at the time Bush.
Don’t worry, only 225 illegal immigrants landed at Dover in the last 2 days, that will keep the population topped.up.
Who had the gun, Billy The Kid?? Glad it was only a toy. Respect for the ARV Team
Looks like it was Han Solo to me, I’m pretty sure that’s his blaster without the sight. Better call lord Vader to take care of this one
NOT SURE ABOUT STARWARS LOOKS MORE LIKE A BROOM HANDLE MOUSER WITH SOMETHING JAMMED ON THE END
John, you are quite right. Han Solo”s ‘blaster’ (gun) was based on the German Mauser…
That’s pretty much what solos blaster was
To be honest if you saw that toy gun from a distance you would think it was real.
In this day & age of uncertainty the person was lucky he was not shot, what an idiot!
Clearly this is a model of Han solos blaster… duhhh
