A new and worrying milestone in the coronavirus pandemic has been reached, with over 600 confirmed cases of COVID-19 now identified on the Isle of Wight.
A total of 603 cases have been confirmed locally according to the latest data from Public Health England, which lists 4 new cases on Monday, 1 on Sunday and 6 on Saturday. Last Friday a total of 11 cases were confirmed with 37 cases confirmed on the Island since last Wednesday.
Across the Island, combined figures from NHS England and the Office for National Statistics show 89 people have died due to the virus — 41 in hospital, 44 in care homes, 3 in the community and 1 in the hospice. It’s thought that a man in his 50s has died from COVID this week and it’s said he did not have any underlying health conditions.
The oldest patient to have died due to the virus was 102, with the youngest being 59. However, the oldest person to recover from the virus at the hospital was 100, the youngest being only 24.
The average age of patients who recovered from the virus, as of the end of June, was 71.
Despite the recent rises, the Isle of Wight is one of the safest places in the country and is considered a medium COVID-19 risk, meaning Islanders have escaped tougher restrictions on day to day life compared to cities and towns up north.

The government admitted on October 9th that they are including colds and flu as cases which there are always more of at this time of year and more deaths because of these. In the past we haven’t had the figures rammed down our throats 24/7 by the msm as we are now. It’s scaremongering to the extreme and is not fair and is ruining many more lives than covid

Now with ministers saying the vaccine will only have limited worth, seems likely that many of us will end up catching this within the next decade. Let’s hope the numbers stay low enough to ensure all have a bed in the hospital should we need it.

There is clearly a problem in government with control, however if all follow the rules we play OUR part!
Kev, the Government can’t enforce rules without taking a tough line like foreign police. IF they do so here, the whingers would be complaining of their rights, their innocence and every excuse which would have to go to court to be rectified.
Should the Police be allowed to beat people not observing the law then people would follow such, but the Gov can impose a fine of a million and people know it won’t be enforced.

We should do it like Spain complete locdown all country. 1 hour slot allacated by postcode for shopping. Everyone stick to sanitizing and face mask rules to get the infection rate down. We all want the same thing a return to normality but if we don’t help ourselves this horrible virus will continue. Unfortunately though until there is some sort of cure or a vaccination we will never be rid of it completely.

There is no true evidence to confirm that. The press report antibodies fall after time. They do with all infections but its the T cell part of immune system that remains. They are the important part. They in any re infection help attack and also get B cells to produce antibodies again. There is allot about t cell immunity on web.
It’s a pandemic….the worst in 100 years..we can only slow it down….it’s not going away…a vaccine won’t resolve the numbers…deaths and hospital admissions are inextricably rising….following the European curve……it will be around for a long time..(years)….and from what I have experienced on the North Island..and at Tesco…Ryde….we are all doomed….doomed I say….on the upside..Tottenham are doing well under Jose…….
I really don’t think there is any respect for the Government and the so called rules and laws that emerge from No 10. Dominic Cummings blew it big time for his buddy Boris. The island has seen a spike in numbers due to the visiting numbers. Let’s see what happens later on in the coming months. We certainly don’t need visitors coming here from Tier 3 parts of the country. The council should stop any from these counties stepping foot on the island. Then if everyone is sensible and adheres to hand, face, space, then hopefully we might see the number of infections drop.

Fully agree. There are loads of coaches here mostly older generations and many from tier 3 areas. I don’t understand how we are supposed to be protecting these people yet they are free to travel and holiday wherever they like. We are seen as a good place to holiday as our figures are low. I have nothing against anyone coming here as the island does need the business but surely at the moment it’s safer to stay away?

On Monday of this week at Ryde sea front I witnessed 1 car from Manchester, 1 from Cardiff, 2 from London and 1 from Bristol. The information is based on the names and address on the front number plate of the vehicles. I know that this does not prove anything but it makes you wonder.

What age and where is the infection occurring? It would be useful to know. Island residents or visitors? At this rate, we won’t be the LOWEST and SAFEST part of the country………. visitors keep leaving their area which has a much higher infection rate than ours, travel over here……it doesn’t take a scientist to work out what’s happening and why the numbers are slowly increasing. The figure mentioned is from when it all started.? What is actually the current amount of people infected, just like the common cold and flu there will only be something to alleviate the symptoms not a cure that’s as simple as it gets. Earlier was a 13 week lock down short 2 to 4 week ones will achieve nothing but cost more people’s jobs and companies to close
