Plans have been submitted to the Isle of Wight Council as part of the process to transform the former Pizza Express store on Pyle Street into an all-new evening venue.
The former restaurant has sat empty since the demise of the Pizza Express chain several months ago, but it could see a new lease of life. Entertainment specialists Wyld Events have submitted planning permission to install advertising signs on the building, which could become the latest addition to the Isle of Wight’s nightlife.
Wyld Events, which has previously held popular club nights and events in high profile locations such as the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth and the i360 in Brighton, plans to create ‘Wyld Bar’ – described as an exciting new environment targeted at people who love to socialise and love to share their experiences online, as well as being a place at the heart of the community.
A Wyld Events representative told Island Echo:
“Submitting this application is a step closer towards investing and regenerating a prominent building in Newport’s Town Centre.
“Newport has seen some significant investment into its Hospitality Sector in recent years and I’m incredibly excited at the thought of being part of that. The first set of plans submitted for the site outline my idea to bring a unique bar experience showcasing a vibrant pink design with neon statement touches throughout to the Isle of Wight, and somewhere I hope to be at the heart of the community too.”
The company says that alongside being a new venue for Newport, the opening of Wyld Bar could also provide opportunity for new permanent jobs, as well as opportunities for local suppliers and contractors.

I expect the residents living in the flats above Pizza Express are going to love that!
Thats what I thought and the flats opposite
I think Wyld do the silent disco nights mostly. So no more noisy than pizza express I expect
Well if you choose to live in the middle of a town centre what the ell do you expect! Good luck to them! The islands younger people deserve somewhere else to enjoy, it’s not all f’n cream teas you know! Bring back 80’s night at bogeys I say!?
