IOW Lanesend 2014Three schools from the Isle of Wight are gearing up to take part in the Southampton leg of the 2015 Rock Challenge and J Rock tour, which is set be the largest school based dance and drama extravaganza. 

Involving over 320 schools, the Be Your Best Foundation will travel to 18 locations across the UK producing 38 spectacular events and giving more than 20,000 young people the opportunity to shine.

The Southampton Rock Challenge shows, to be held at Southampton Guildhall on Monday 23rd Tuesday 24th and Wednesday 25th February and the J Rock™ shows from Thursday 26th – Saturday 28th February, involve a total of 48 schools and will each feature an outstanding display of youth creativity and talent.

2015 will mark the third year Carisbrooke CE Primary School have been involved with the J Rock™ initiative, although it will be the first time the school have travelled to Southampton to compete. Basing their performance around the Isle of Wight story of the smuggler ordered to build a lighthouse as penance for stealing, Carisbrooke introduce their piece ‘The Pepperpot’ on Thursday.

Lanesend Primary School have also been involved in the competition before and last year also received recognition last year for their approach to actively involve a range of students in their production and won the Be Your Best Foundation Award for Positive Inclusion. Competing on Friday next week, Lanesend Primary School will be performing their piece ‘The Selfish Giant.’

Newchurch Primary School however will be competing for their first time in 2015 and have created their performance around the 16 mile journey children in a small district of western Kenya face just for a meal and basic education at the Uzima Day Care Centre. They take to the stage on Saturday.
