The Island VI Form in Newport has told a number of students to stay at home following confirmation of a positive case within the school community – the third Isle of Wight school to announce a positive case today alone (Friday).
The ‘small number’ of students who have been in close contact with the individual who has tested positive for COVID-19 have received a letter informing them that they must stay at home for 14 days.
The school says they are working with Public Health England to monitor the situation.
Earlier today a total of 33 pupils and 5 staff at Binstead Primary School were told to go home. A short time later, Cowes Enterprise College announced that the whole of Year 8 has been sent home following a positive test within the school community.
Island VI Form at Nodehill remains open for all other students.

Number 3, to be expected of course. All this bubble nonsense should stop, I’m in this bubble, and I have another bubble there, and when I go out I’m in another bubble, ridiculous. Pop them all and just keep apart. The island will be lockdown longer than ever if this keeps up.
Boris and his bubbles!!! I agree, people are not doing as they are told. You’re right, just keep away. It’s the people who are unable to look after themselves, go shopping and get any meds they need that rely on bubbles…..
Let’s not forget these school all use Southern Vectis Buses, they have no dedicated school buses anymore, I’d like to see something from the bus company about this.
Like Dominos, one after another. Crazy to have opened schools, as for the tiny amount of important learning children gain per week, is miniscule compared to wasted time, lessons which they will never even remember or use in life.
Seems just a means by HMG of keeping the parents working, but if a child brings home CV and ends up spreading such to a vulnerable member of the family, a huge burden on their shoulders for the rest of their life to carry.
IF as we are told, the vaccine will be ready by Spring, then even one year of lost schooling education, with online tutors etc now available, would be a small price to pay, as all would be in the same boat.
IF a child has any other serious illness for a year, they don’t all end up retards so why so if they are given such time off over CV and with computers it would be easy to give the NECESSARY tuition, and skip the more less needed subject UNTIL things improve.
Those type who would not conform to home learning in honesty, are the ‘sort’ who will be unlikely to ‘do well’ even IF at school and more disruptive, so again, hardly likely to adversely deeply affect their futures.
Unpopular view I guess, but none the less true and many parents IF truth be told just like their children at school to give them a break in many cases.
The small amount of retained, important and useful knowledge a child learns in most years of schooling could easily be missed for one year, without seriously impacting their future. Many accident victims miss that much and go on to catch up.
True enough, especially with online learning and zoom etc. Those who say some children wouldn’t bother to learn, then could either be forced to attend just ‘essential’ lessons, OR we could likely rightly assume that even IF they were at school their intake of such lessons would likely be zero and they would also then disrupt others too.
It’s not just education tho it’s mental and social implications . They are far more important than education.
Smithy a child if unwittingly they then brought home this vile illness and then ended up killing a parent, grandparent or vulnerable family member would have far more ‘mental’ implications of knowing that, than they would spending 8 hours a day extra ‘gaming’
As for social implications, they now have more contact via zoom, or interactive playing on pc’s etc, and many have brothers sisters etc for company.
Better than seeing a little white coffin lowered into the earth, surely?
I think the easy answer which no one seems to be talking about is re starting the year over. Then children don’t need to miss out on one second of education, the incompetent government is investing in Brain dead policy’s like giving kids online tuition (to “catch up” ♀️) when if they would just invest in early years and keep children in pre school settings for an extra year, (more like the excellent Scandinavian countries) then problem solved.
no, but a whole generation of kids missing out ensures that the entire generation is slow and behind everyone else. This ensure that in later life,as full grwon adults, they are easily manipulated and mediocre at best – nice, obedient and servile drones.
Children will learn a lot from the net, unless the Gov censor that then they will always have access to different viewpoints. Also thus far they are growing further away from being nice, obedient and servile. The invasion of the third world has seen to that, forever now.
I agree with you freedom, I missed a lot of school. I am catching up now, doing maths and english entry level, really enjoying it, in english we are doing FACT or OPINION wish I’d done that years ago, I would have made some very different decisions in life.
For once, the Cat agrees with the dog. With online learning and zoom, seems madness to have children in school so close to a vaccine coming.
IF a child has come home with a cold as most have, then just as easy if not easier to bring home CV.
I’d love to know exactly what public health England are actually doing.
The entire year 8 and cowes, 33+ at binstead plus cases here. Not to mention other kids from schools also being off school related to covid.
I thought kids didn’t transmit the virus.
Schools were safe etc etc.
Cases on the island are exploding, 22 cases in one day earlier this week and 15 today. This incompetent government pit us in a pointless mock down where half the economy is still open to spread this virus.
Prediction. R remains unchanged and we will have a full lockdown with school closures from December 2nd all the way through until January.
So much for schools to be safe, kids don’t show symptoms but can be carriers should be part of lock down
Yes, totally agree. But Boris would not lock them down in the 2 weeks half term. They have got it so wrong again. Should have started lockdown week 1 of half term plus an additional 4 weeks lockdown.
Why do the kids need an education when just below every story on here is the key to untold riches?
I’m putting everything I own into bit-coin.Then when I have made millions I’m going to build a massive lunatic asylum and lock up half the posters on here
John, I guess many witness daily how the UK can allow in the impoverished of the world here to house, feed, cloth, educate, and treat, so, not unreasonably assumes that the country must be not overcrowded and it must be ‘rich’ OR ‘why’ else would it still continue to do so?
A great question hair of, and one I have asked myself many times.
People must remember that these positive tests are NOT diagnoses. The PCR test has between 89 & 94% false positive rate. It was never designed for the testing that it is currently being used for. Please use Google and find out for yourselves folks.
