A temporary 30mph speed limit is to be imposed in and around Blackwater next month to enable Openreach to undertake utility works in the area.
From 21:00 on Monday 7th March until the morning of Thursday 10th March, motorists will be met with a lower speed limit on the entire length of Blackwater Hollow and on Sandown Road (Blackwater Road) between Blackwater Hollow and Merstone Lane.
The speed limit is being cut from national to 30mph to ensure safety during utility works by Openreach.
Normal speed limits are set to be reintroduced once work is completed.

we will be lucky to get out of 2nd gear. so good for pollution.
Should cause less pollution because hopefully no one will be killed during this period.
The new temporary 30MPH speed limit order is not for this length road, it is from Blackwater Hollow junction to Merstone Lane junction.
The last ‘temporary’ speed limit, outside the cricket club, has been in place for almost 24 months totally against regulations and in my belief unenforceable. It’s all bluff!
18months and 3 days to be precise so, signs hopefully will be removed soon if island roads pull their finger out. Yes I believe it is unenforceable too, because the order is now out of date.
Well sadly I would like to see 20mph speed limits on all back roads around Ryde, especially the rat runs..
