TELEGRAPH POLE BROUGHT DOWN IN 3-CAR COLLISION

UPDATED: Ashey Road in Ryde has been closed in both directions following a 3-car crash outside Ashey Garage.

A telegraph pole has been brought down in the incident, which has involved a blue BMW 3-Series, a silver Citroen C4 and a grey Audi A3.

The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are on scene alongside Police and paramedics. They were called to the crash at just before 13:50.

No one is trapped in any of the vehicles.

UPDATE @ 14:20 – 1 person has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital by ambulance, however their injuries are not thought to be serious.

Recovery of the vehicles has been arranged and BT Openreach have been informed of the damage to their network.

The road remains closed.

UPDATE @ 15:00 – Ashey Road has partially re-opened this afternoon, however delays are to be expected as the vehicles are recovered.

Island Roads are now in attendance.

UPDATE @ 15:16 – Island Roads say an emergency closure has now been put in place to allow BT to remove the telegraph pole and make necessary repairs.

The road is closed from Smallbrook Roundabout to Green Lane.

Motorists should divert via Brading or Wootton.

UPDATE @ 17:08 – Ashey Road has re-opened to traffic in both directions.
