Police are hunting a number of suspects after a 15-year-old boy was seemingly kidnapped at knifepoint on the streets of Ryde last week, being forced to get into a vehicle under duress.
The teen has been left terrified to leave the house after the shocking incident, which occurred at the junction of West Street and Adelaide Place at around 21:20 on Friday night (29th August).
It was at the weekend that Island Echo published an article about an assault, based on information provided by the Police. But it is only now that the true severity of the incident has come to light.
It is understood that a pair of 15-year-old boys were standing near the local Co-Op when a car suddenly veered off the road, onto the pavement and drove towards them. It is claimed one of the boys was then hit over the head, with efforts made to drag him into the boot of the vehicle – which had 5 men inside.
The seemingly innocent boy was then threatened, allegedly with a knife to his face, and forced to get in the car, which then sped off.
It is only when a case of what appears to be mistaken identity was realised that the teenager was let out of the vehicle, at nearby Pell Lane. The car then made off into the night. The boy was not seriously hurt.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has only provided limited details about the incident, but has confirmed that the 15-year-old was assaulted by one of the men in the car, threatened – possibly with a knife, and forced into the vehicle for a short period.
Detectives have launched a major investigation, but despite their efforts, they have not yet made any arrests. All 5 males are still wanted.
The make, model or colour of the car involved has not been confirmed.
Anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage that could assist the investigation, is urged to come forward. Those with information are asked to call Police on 101 or visit the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary website, quoting reference 44250391974.

Not to worry isle of wight police will release the CCTV from the coop and door bell cameras sometime in november.
I live near there and I’ve not seen any police or heard from any of our neighbours saying that the police have knocked there doors and are looking for doorbell footage or any other CCTV that they might have

The police should not simply put the onus on the public to come forward to solve this case, they should actually get of their rears and do some proper detective work which is what they have been trained to do and now get well paid to do.
Police are more worried about speeding and vehicle insurance and tax as this generated fast revenue why put effort into something they can’t solve without more facts. Sounds harsh but even the article points out lack of real info
