A 16-year-old boy has spent the night in the cells after being arrested in connection with a serious assault in Ryde, which occurred during an outbreak of violent disorder.
Police were called shortly after midnight this morning (Sunday) to reports of a large group of people fighting on Ryde Esplanade, as first reported by Island Echo.
During the fight, a man was knocked unconscious.
He was taken to hospital by the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, but he has not sustained any life-threatening injuries.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that a 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
He remains in custody at this time.
Enquiries into the full circumstances remain ongoing.
Cordons in the area have now been lifted.
