Organisers of next month’s TedXLukelyBrook event have announced more details regarding some of the special activities planned for the day that spotlight all that is good about the Island’s young people.
19-year-old singer-songwriter Beth Brookfield, who is currently studying a BA (Hons) Commercial Music at Platform One College of Music, has composed and will take to the stage to perform the event theme ‘If not now, when?’, especially written by her for the event on 2nd March.
Beth made her festival debut at The Isle of Wight Festival in 2021 and has been described as ‘the UK’s newest star’ by Music and Tour News. She also supported American singer Arielle in 2020 and most recently supported James Walsh, frontman of English post-Britpop band Starsailor.
Commenting on her upcoming performance, Beth has said:
“Having an opportunity like this at 19 is really exciting and as a songwriter ‘If not now, when?’ was such a great title to write a song about. I really wanted to capture the motivational side of the saying without neglecting the reality that everyone struggles sometimes with procrastination or the fear of working towards their biggest goals and that is why this event is going to be beneficial to so many, and I hope my song enhances that”.
Whilst the ‘Talks’ take place in the main theatre, a dedicated ‘Watch Party’ is being held simultaneously in the Riverside Centre. Due to demand from across the Island’s schools and colleges attendance at the Watch Party has been increased to 200 across the day including students from Christ The King College, Priory School, Ryde Academy, Isle of Wight College, Medina College, Carisbrooke College, Island 6th Form, Cowes Enterprise College and Island Free School.
In addition to students watching the TEDtalks live, speakers will also visit the ‘Watch Party’ throughout the day to talk to the young people gathered and directly answer any questions that come from their TEDtalks.

The organisers have also been working with the 4P’s radio training school, which uses the ingredients of radio to help young people become more confident versions of themselves. Giving them a better opportunity for a brighter future. Students will be interviewing the TEDxLukelyBrook speakers throughout the day, which includes former CNN Anchor and Emmy Award-winning journalist Gina London.
