Bomb disposal experts from Portsmouth were deployed to the Island today (Friday), only to discover the suspicious object discovered had been covered over by a landslip.
The suspected ordnance, believed to be a hand grenade, was found by a member of the public on Brook Beach yesterday afternoon prompting Police to cordon off an area of the rural beach off of Military Road.
Due to the fading light, Royal Navy teams were not deployed to Brook until this morning, however, upon arrival it was discovered a small landslip had covered the device.
The decision was taken to leave the object in situ.
Meanwhile, Coastguard Rescue Teams from Ventnor were deployed to Shanklin Beach yesterday afternoon to assist a woman who had fallen over.
