Police are continuing to investigate a 39-year-old man on suspicion of both driving and drug offences after he was pulled over by Police on Saturday.
Officers stopped a Land Rover Discovery on Blackwater Road near Newport at 18:00 on Saturday evening when it was identified that the vehicle had no insurance, MOT or tax. It was then discovered that the driver didn’t have a valid licence either.
Further roadside checks were conducted including a drugs wipe, which indicated a positive result. A search of the car then led to suspected cocaine and cannabis being found.
The driver, a 39-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of drug driving, driving without a licence, driving without insurance, possession of cocaine and possession of cannabis.
He has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
It’s been a busy few shifts for Police and vehicle recovery agents Stag Lane Motors, with at least another 2 cars being taken off the roads…
Officers pulled over this Peugeot 207 GTI on Hookes Way, Newport on Sunday. It was found that the driver had a revoked licence and was driving without insurance. He will appear before Magistrates in due course.
Within just minutes of the previous seizure, Police located a Mitshubishi Colt on Horsebridge Hill being driven by an individual without a licence and without insurance.
It’s safe to say that this vehicle was also seized and the drivers will also appear in court at a later date.
Keep up the good work guys. Law abiding citizens pay tax and insurance, so why do these lowlifes think they are above the law?

Wow bad English but yes the courts need to up the fines about double at least. Even then it would be weak..
Why should he worry, all that will happen is disqualification for a year, that won’t bother him, £200 fine, that won’t bother him as not paying tax and insurance will cover that.
What we want is 500 hours community work and minimum £10000 fine.. That will clear the scum of the road.

All you need is number plat recognition systems at the petrol stations / supermarkets. Reports direct to police any car that drives in with no MOT / TAX / Insurance. Also stations should refuse to sell fuel to illegal cars.

Yes well done, how about stopping some of these little motorbikes with loud exhausts, check out their insurance, especially the two that ride around Ryde, backfiring, and turning right off Esplanade up George St.. that’s a no right turn area.. ! But maybe if no licence or insurance does not matter ?
Also get all the illegal private electric scooters confiscated and crushed if they ride on public roads and pavements.

Probably the same as what drives around in Pellhurst Road/West Street/Well Street areas too backfiring at all hours of day and night. So annoying. Should be taken off the roads permanently.

Although im extreamly pleased with the Police on the Island, I must say I agree with your comment “disillusioned”. We’ve had two non insured, non taxed, non Mot’ed cars on our road for well over 18 months from the same irisponsable arrogant un social owner, he even has a dumped caravan with grass growing up through the road surface. We have spoken to the Police and IOW Highways over 24 times between us all and NOTHING has ever been done? “we’re waiting for him to drive them” is the reply we get every time! Lets hope he doesnt murder a child then while you wait to catch him?
