Officers investigating the rape of a 3-year-old girl in Yarmouth have been given an additional 24 hours to question a man in custody, and are now appealing for Dash Cam footage.
The incident took place shortly after 15:00 on Monday 31st August when a 3-year-old girl was seriously sexually assaulted by a man in a wooded area of Fort Victoria Country Park, as previously reported by Island Echo.
A 60-year-old man, believed to be from Freshwater, has been arrested as part of the ongoing investigation.
Detective Chief Inspector Liam Davies said:
“Officers have been working around the clock to carry out enquiries, and we have been granted a further 24 hours to speak to a man in his 60s who was arrested in connection with this incident.
“We are now keen to hear from anyone who drove into Fort Victoria Country Park via Westhill Lane between 11.30am and 4pm on 31 August, and has Dash Cam in their vehicle.
“If you were there between these times, please check your Dash Cam and please give us a call. You may not realise it, but you may have captured something vital.
“In addition to this, we continue to appeal for any dog walkers and members of the public using the park on that day. We have spoken to two dog walkers who interacted with the victim’s mother on this day, but we know there were many other people around, including other dog walkers who also spoke to the victim’s mother.
“Please call us, and let us know who else was in the park that day when you were there.”
Superintendent Sarah Jackson, District Commander for the Isle of Wight, said:
“I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who has supported this investigation so far by sharing our appeals and taking the time to speak with us.
“Please do continue to do this and provide every piece of information that you can. Officers are still at the scene and our additional patrols continue, so if you are in the area and have any concerns or information please do not hesitate to approach them.”

Proof should be easy now. And even IF one mistaken innocent were executed by mistake, the number of lives saved by killing those who would reoffend or those who would ruin lives would make that low risk worth it.

I doubt you would be so complacent if you were facing wrongful execution – I take it you have never heard of Derek Bentley or Timothy Evans? You also need to balance that whilst a death penalty might well deter some from committing their terrible crimes, others would go ahead anyway and kill their victim, reckoning that they would have nothing further to lose if subsequently caught. Can’t see any government bringing back hanging anyway. The DNA point is well made, and on conviction the offender should automatically be facing a whole-life tariff.

I sincerely hope so to. But I would have, very near the priority of a help list, the sentence of this piece of human sewage being so very severe that it would send shock waves through the huge pedo community.
Whilst the child’s welfare would be top, if I were her family I would not rest until I ensured such retribution occurred legally or not. Then, and ONLY then, could I ever look her in the eyes once more.
As a small child it may not mean that much now, but in the latter years, knowing that the vile trash paid a terrible price, would, I am sure, be of great comfort. It certainly would to me, and I have no doubt many of you.

So, that prisoner will be sent to a Cat C prison throughout the Uk. And if released from that Cat C or a Cat D can return to restricted areas. However, if a former prisoner was residing on the island anyhow then of course he/she will return. Albany also has a local remand unit for local criminals and unless they are sentenced do leave the prison and return home as do the islands local sex offenders. Therefore, your childish theory is incorrect and we would all love to know how you got your figures and where from please. Lastly, just cause you live on the island doesn’t mean you or we have an exemption just as local jails around the country where they do discharge prisoners from. Judging by some of the comments, I think there are certain news stories that shouldn’t be allowed to be commented on…at least until more information is released. There is so much supposition here, which could lead to many false rumours, that it is in no ones interest to allow comments.
The problem with society today is that there is too much emphasis on “Human Rights” and none on human responsibilities. When a person steps outside the accepted minimum standards of human behaviour and perpetrates such a heinous crime, then the term “human” should cease to apply so such animals.
