Organisers of the Isle of Wight Ploughing Match have thanked everyone who supported this year’s event following a successful day in the fields at Godshill on Saturday (19th September).
The annual match, which has been an Island tradition since the 1940s, took place at Tresslewood on Newport Road, bringing together ploughmen and tractors ranging from vintage machinery to modern-day machines.
Around 33 tractors had been expected to take part, with competitors judged on a number of elements including the straightness and uniformity of their ploughing, depth, how well vegetation was buried and the overall appearance of each plot.
This year’s event was also held in support of Mountbatten Hospice, with proceeds after event costs set to be donated to the Isle of Wight charity.
Following Saturday’s match, the Isle of Wight Ploughing Match Committee thanked those who attended and supported the event.
The committee, made up of a small number of volunteers, works behind the scenes throughout the year to bring the annual match together.
They said:
“The IOW Ploughing Match Committee would like to pass on their thanks to everyone that came, supported and enjoyed today’s Match.”
