UPDATED: The Met Office is warning that some very strong winds are expected tomorrow (Thursday) in association with Storm Doris.
Although the storm will miss the Island, gusts of 50-60 mph are still expected widely across the South, with the risk of 70 mph on coasts and hills.
A yellow severe weather warning is in place from 05:00 tomorrow morning until 20:00. For those traveling north, an amber weather warning has been issued for the midlands.
Islanders can expect some travel disruption, particularly on cross-Solent ferries. Some damage to trees and buildings is also possible.
UPDATE THURSDAY @ 08:00 – Hovertravel have suspended their cross-Solent service this morning due to the adverse weather conditions.
Meanwhile Red Funnel say their Red Jet is likely to be suspended at some point this morning.
In Yarmouth, it is reported that the Wightlink car ferry service is suffering with cancellations this morning as the wind increases in the Western Solent. The cross-Solent operator say the route is operating a revised timetable.
UPDATE @ 08:24 – Red Funnel have suspended their Red Jet hi-speed passenger service as a result of the strong winds.
On the Island’s roads, Island Echo readers are reporting that a tree has come down on Victoria Avenue, Shanklin, partially blocking the carriageway.
UPDATE @ 17:13 – Red Jet services and Hovertravel services are now back in operation.
