Firefighters have ruled out the possibility of a fire at St Mary’s Hospital this lunchtime (Saturday).
Steam venting from the building which houses the Decontamination and Sterilisation Unit was mistaken for smoke, prompting a call to the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.
2 appliances and an aerial ladder platform were mobilised to the scene and some staff were evacuated.
Fire crews have now returned to station and staff have been allowed back into the building.
